We attended ELF 2017 Convention

European Locksmith Federation Convention 2017 – Prague

In May 2017, the Czech Lockpickers Association had the unique opportunity to present itself at the European Locksmith Federation Convention (ELF) 2017, which took place in Prague from May 19th to 21st. This prestigious event brought together locksmiths, security professionals, and industry experts from all over Europe, creating a perfect platform to introduce the art of lockpicking to a broader audience.

For the convention attendees, we organized a mini lockpicking competition, which featured several interactive stations. Participants could test their skills in opening cylinder locks and padlocks using lockpicking tools, gaining a hands-on experience with different techniques. However, one of the most interesting challenges was picking a cylinder lock installed in a real door.

Unlike freehand lockpicking, where the lock can be held, rotated, or even secured in a vice, picking a lock inside a door requires a completely different approach. The lock is firmly fixed in place, making the process more challenging. Some participants, with enough patience and skill, managed to successfully open the lock in the door, which was a rewarding experience for them.

The event was an exciting and educational experience, allowing industry professionals and enthusiasts to learn more about physical security, vulnerabilities in locks, and the technical aspects of lock manipulation. Our presence at ELF 2017 was another step in spreading awareness about lockpicking as a legitimate skill, promoting ethical practices, and connecting with experts in the field.
